Comeback Medvedev Secures First Trophy in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of that year.
Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five points to take the lead.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to create a final set.
He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
