Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Settle in with your partner and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. At first glance, it could look like standard body horror, but within Together resides a deep examination about how we choose to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together represents the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their roles, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim move from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, sure, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He dreads the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting either of his characters the clear bad guy.

Both characters confront the type of challenges that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. At their core, they have affection for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the symbolism never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and say, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu at present.
